Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice At
her confermation hearing Condoleezza Rice stressed that
now was the time for diplomacy.
"we
must use American diplomacy to help create a balance of
power in the world that favors freedom. Our task and our
duty is to unite around a vision and policies that will
spread freedom and prosperity around the globe."
Does the appointment of Dr. Rice indicate a change in
US foreign policy? While some commentators see the
appointment as a positive move which will enhance US
foreign policy in the years ahead, many fear it heralds
a more hard-line approach to international affairs.
